Each year CWIMMA holds an annual Welding and Machine Tool Contest exposing over 1,600 area students to educational and career opportunities in fabrication related trades. This year CWIMMA will award $10,000 in prizes to the top students, 25 scholarships to area technical colleges, and new equipment to winning schools.
Recently, Tigerton hosted one session of the welding competition. The following is reprinted with permission from the February 13, 2020 edition of The Marion Advertiser.
On Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, the Central Wisconsin Metal Manufacturers Alliance (CWIMMA), brought the welding simulator to the school for the students to try. The overall turnout was great, with 90 percent of the students trying to win the gift cards. CWIMMA awards a first $50 and second $25 gift card winners by their score on the simulator. Tony Schmidt, from Schuette Metals, was very proud of all the students that gave it a try, but in the end, the first place winner was Landon Prey, and the second-place winner was Nathan Hohn! There is also a third-place alternate who was Allen Jobe. If neither Landon or Nathan can not make it to the next step, a real-world test at Schuette Metals in March, then Allen will fill in, Allen was the third-place welder.
Thanks to all the companies that make this happen, and a big thanks to Tony Schmidt from Schuette Metals for putting on this great event here.
